Cotswold Classic 2025 – Post race email
Cotswold Classic 2025 – Post race email
Hey All
Well, I hope everyone enjoyed today and isn’t quite as sunburnt as I am ?
Firstly, thank you all for choosing 113 Events for your Middle Distance racing. It means a lot to us that you entrust us with your race experience, and without you guys all entering and racing with us, it simply couldn’t happen, so thank you.
I think today was the toughest conditions we’ve ever had in our 14 years and 29 Middle Distance races to date, and I can only imagine how hard it was for all of you out on the course, so hats off to you all.
It’s also the first time we’ve ever had to ban wetsuits, and I have been losing sleep over that for the last few nights, but we were all seriously impressed with just how well you all handled it, and I’d even go as far as to say that we’ve potentially created a few non wetsuit swim converts who have seen that it can be possible, albeit a little tougher, but still a nice experience
Anyway, this is the final email you’ll get from me about the Classic, so in this email I’ll cover the following :
How fast you went and how fast you looked doing it
Lost property and stuff at the lake
Next year’s races
How fast you went and how fast you looked doing it
I’m guessing that most of you are only interested in this bit, so I’ll do this first
You can find the full race results HERE
The photographer will have pictures uploaded ready for you to see tomorrow morning ish HERE
Lost property and stuff at the lake
A few of us will be back at the lake tomorrow most of the day going through the final tidy up stages, and getting everything counted and back into storage for next year
We have a load of lost property in a box down at the lake, as well as left over shirts etc.
If you’re in the area still and fancy popping along, please come and see us and we can go through what we have and see if we can find anything you’ve left behind. We also have a load of left over gels and shirts, which you’re welcome to come and grab as these only get binned before our next race in 11months time
Alternatively, if you’ve lost something and can’t get there tomorrow, please go on Google Images and find a pic of something the same as the lost item, send it over to me and I’ll see if it’s in our box and get it out in the post to you in the coming days
What did you think of the race
Although we’ve had a post race team beer tonight (please see pic above), we’ll sit and have a proper debrief as a team on Thursday night once the dust has settled, and we all have a better idea of what went on over this weekend.
We try and see and understand as much about the race as possible, but all of you see it with a totally different set of eyes, and it’s your experience on the day that means so much to us
Please let me know what you enjoyed and what you didn’t enjoy as without knowing that, we can’t then do more or less of those elements of the race experience in order to make the race improve year on year.
We already have a few tweaks planned for next year, and the two sections of sub standard road surface near to the lake are both in hand with the council to either be sorted for next July, or we have a course tweak planned that avoids it.
Anyway, please let me know what you think and anything we can do to make the race better going forwards
Next year’s races
Although this year’s race dust has barely settled, we’re already in full swing with getting next year’s races fixed and ready to open in a couple of weeks
The provisional dates are June 6th for the Cotswold 113, and July 12th for the Classic.
These dates should be fixed in the next 10 days or so, and entries will open towards the end of the month
I will send an email out to you all once they’re fixed and when they’re going to open for entries
We also will continue our groups and clubs entries, as these now account for a good chunk of our competitors, so if you didn’t benefit from this in 2025, and you could potentially have 5 or more people come from your group/club, please get in touch and I can give you all the info on the group entry system where you can save a few quid on entry, and also have automatic racking with each other, off in the same wave and we can produce separate results for your club if you wanted to make it a club championship, or even an inter club championship if you wanted to challenge another club
Anyway, that really is it for me for this year’s races (which I’m sure many of you will likely be quite glad about)
I’m truly hoping that you’re all currently sat with your feet up and a beer or glass or wine in hand, and please be very proud of what you all achieved today in some really very tough conditions. You’ve all been amazing competitors, and our team truly appreciate your high spiritis on days like today when it would’ve been so easy to throw in the towel
Thanks again for choosing 113 Events to race with, and if you enjoyed the day, please tell all your mates as that the best form of advertising in Triathlon, and please also come back next year and either race with us or join us on the red team as a marshal.
Cheers and happy recovery

Race day water temp
The water temp this morning is 25.0, which puts us in the Non Wetsuit range for today’s Cotswold Classic Triathlon
WATER TEMP UPDATE – PLEASE EXPECT A NON WETSUIT SWIM
Cotswold Classic Competitor newsletter #7
Cotswold Classic – Competitor update / newsletter
Hi All
As the weather has been so hot this week, and is looking to continue into the weekend, I wanted to get a last mail out to you all in advance to most of you travelling down, to bring you some last updates so you can prepare accordingly :
In this email I’ll cover the following:
Weekend Car Parking update
Water Temperature
Weekend Car parking update
Our carpark is big enough for all competitors and a reasonable chunk of spectators.
However, with the forecast being so good this weekend, the Water park is going to be super busy, and the beach and country park that you walk through is now fully booked and bursting to capacity. They are taking no more car entries or walk in entries.
Therefore, there’s a couple of things to note :
1: When you arrive at our carpark on Saturday, you will be given a green wristband that allows you to walk through the Beach and Countrypark to our registration area. It is super important that you and your supporters that come with you do not try and go into the Beach and Country park area beyond just walking through.
They’ve been good enough to let us have access to walk through to make your journey from the carpark to the regulation area easier, but have very strict control of numbers in their facility and safety cover etc, so we cannot push this offer by using their facilities please

2: Because of the above, we’ve agreed with them that we will shut our carpark on the Sunday for all access from 10am (which is when the beach and country park opens)
As competitors, you’ll all be in well before that. However, if you have supporters coming along later, they will need to be into the carpark before 10am please
We cannot sell parking tickets for Sunday to anyone other than competitors, and anyone coming later will be first come first served.
If that car park fills up, or your spectators are coming along after 10am, then there is a Pay and Display carpark at Neighbridge country park, which is a 10-15min walk to the start/finish location, and is actually on the run course.
The what3words location for Neighbridge is ///replaying.island.remote
Somerford Keynes is a residential area, so please do not park on water lane
Water Temperature update
We’ve been down the lake all this week, and since Tuesday, it’s been over 30deg every day.
The water temperature is now increasing significantly, and today and tomorrow are forecasted for more of the same
There is now a very real possibility that Sunday’s race may have to have a ban on Wetsuits.
The BTF rules say that over 24.6deg is a Wetsuit Ban, and this needs to be measured at 3 locations around the course at a 60cm depth 1hour before the first swim wave.
This morning, (at the edge, and at the surface) the water temperature is over 23. This would be around 22 at depth around the course.
Tomorrow AM early, we will take a properly measured reading at 3 points around the course, and that will give us a good indication of what Sunday’s Water temp is likely to be, and then we have to make a final judgement 1hour before the first swimmers get into the Water on Sunday, so 05:25
Being realistic, I think there’s about a 30% chance that it will be a non wetsuit swim, so still pretty good odds for those of you that do want to wear one.
We will let everyone know at registration tomorrow what the Saturday AM readings were, and I will also post it to our Facebook, Instagram and 113events.com/news pages.
I will put a link to the BTF rules on what you can and can’t wear on a non wetsuit swim below, but in Summary : You cannot wear a swim suit that extends beyond your elbows or knees, and you are not allowed to wear Buoyancy shorts or use any kind of flotation device.
The Swim section is number 3
BTF RULES HERE
I’m conscious that many of you will now be getting somewhat nervous, but please remember that we are here to support you, and also remind you that there’s a couple of spots on the course where you can stand up and take a break if required. Our canoeists are all super experienced and will help you all around as much as possible and ensure that you are safe.
That’s it from me for the pre race emails. I’ll update our pages with a Water temperature update tomorrow morning, and again at around 05:45 on race morning
We’ll look forward to seeing you all in registration tomorrow, and hope you all have a safe journey down to the Cotswolds
Cheers

Cotswold Classic – Competitor newsletter #5
Cotswold Classic Middle Distance Triathlon – 13th July
Hey All, I hope everyone’s well ?
We’re getting closer and closer to race day now, so I’ll start firing out more info over the next 10 days to get you all ready for race weekend.
I appreciate I’ve written some big waffles in previous mails, so I’ll keep this one as brief as possible.
If you’ve missed our previous newsletters with all the info on the race, you can find them all HERE
In today’s email, I’ll cover the following:
Race Info pack
Start List / Registration requirements
Got someone who can either Massage or fancies being involved in the transition/Swim exit team
Water temp
Race Info Pack
Hopefully, by now you’ve all read the race info pack. if not, then please, please, please head HERE and have a read through it.
Start List / Registration requirements
We have our registration on Saturday July 12th between 12:00 and 17:30.
Also on the Saturday afternoon, we will have two separate Briefings at 13:00 and 16:00 by the Swim exit/transition area.
These are not compulsory, as your compulsory briefing will come out by video link next week, but each will take about 45mins, and we’ll talk through the race in some details and offer up some last minute advice and help. Myself and Dave are really not a great stand up comedy duo, but we’ll try and make it a little bit entertaining to stop you all going off to sleep, and it’ll be very informal with loads of chances to ask questions.
Last year, the BTF introduced their new Racepass system, which is what most of know as a ‘Day license” for non BTF members – membership or a race pass are compulsory for anyone competing at our race within the BTF rules, and provide the competitor with personal liability insurance for the duration of the race.
Once the start list was finalised on the 28th, I sent it off to the BTF for them to go through and validate either your race pass purchase when you signed up through the entry system, or your valid BTF membership for 2025.
On the start list, which I’ll link in a moment, you will see each name now has either an ‘WT/TE’, ‘RP’ or is blank and highlighted Red
If you have an ‘TE/WT’ next to your name, it means the BTF have confirmed your valid membership for the race date with your domestic BTF arm.
If you have an ‘RP’ against your name, they have confirmed that you bought a Racepass from them directly through the entry system when you signed up
If you have a Red Blank against your name, it means you now need sort a race pass, or verify your membership
It’s very possible that if you are a member, and it’s showing as a blank, that they’ve just not found it, or you’ve input your membership number incorrectly, and we can sort that, and I’ll cover more on that in a bit.
If you’re not a member, and need to buy a race pass, I’ll also explain in a minute how you can do this
If you have an RP or an TE/WT against your name, all you will need for registration is a photo ID (ie, driving license, passport, NHS card etc)
There’ll be a few of you that can’t get there on Saturday, so will want someone to register for you and that’s totally fine.
In order for someone to register on your behalf, they will need a printed version of your photoID with a note on it to say it’s fine for them to register on your behalf. This needs to be a printed version rather than the original, as we have to retain that in line with the BTF rules, and then our BTF ref will make checks at transition check in Sunday AM to to ensure the person registered is the person racing. We will, of course, dispose of these properly by having them shredded post race
For relay teams, all competing members will need to be either BTF members, or have bought a race pass.
As relay teams are not showing an WT/TE, RP or Blank, we will need to check BTF membership cards, or race pass purchases for all members of the team. One person can register for the full team, but will need photocopies of the others members ID/Racepass proof, or BTF photo card (i’m conscious not everyone has a photo on their online BTF portal card, so a pic of that, and a photo ID of another format is totally fine)
If you now need to purchase a Racepass from the BTF, you can do so at the following link HERE
You will then need to bring with you a screenshot of your race pass purchase confirmation email (showing that on your phone is fine) along with PhotoID.
I’ll pre-warn you that phone signal on some providers isn’t amazing at the lake, so might be worth taking a screenshot on your phone so you can show a pic of the confirmation rather than trying to get your emails to load
If you don’t get a chance to purchase one before the day, don’t worry, and we can sell you one on behalf the BTF on the day for the same cost of £8. It will need to be cash though please, as we don’t have facility to take card payments (please see previous note on phone signal)
If you’re not sure on any of the above, and I’d totally understand as it’s blimmin complicated, please just ask by email or phone
Please don’t send me copies of your race pass purchases or ID in advance, as I don’t have a facility or time to go through them all in registration, so you will need to bring it with you
We have had around 600 requests for waves and numbers this year during the recent window, and I’ve tried to accommodate everyone where possible
You can find the start list with Waves / Numbers / BTF status HERE
Although I’m afraid we now can’t do anything with the numbers as they are now fixed and have gone off to print, if you now decide that you want a different wave, please see the team at registration on Saturday, and they will try and accommodate you where possible
Got someone with you who fancies being involved in the Transition/Swim exit team
We’ve had a couple of our transition/swim exit team drop out this week, so we could do with another 2-3 people that could help out with the Swim Exit / transition roles if you have any coming along that fancies a bit of that ?
Alternatively, we will always use more people on the bike and run courses ?
Drop me an email at graeme@113events.com
Water temp
Unless you’ve been living under a rock or trekking in Antartica, you can’t help but notice that it’s been pretty blimmin toasty in the UK for the last few weeks, and that the current run of good weather, although not quite as hot going forwards, is looking to continue for a couple more weeks
What this means for lake temperature is that it’s gone up a fair bit and is currently around 22 point something high right now, or even low 23’s
The forecast for the next few days here is certainly a lot cooler, so I can’t see that water temp changing much between now and race day, but you never know.
We work inline with the BTF rules on Wetsuits, which basically says anything above 24.6 is a Wetsuit ban. However, there’s a fair chunk of tolerance for air temp, and it’s very unlikely to be 24deg at 5am in the morning, we have some flex in that upper limit.
However, 22/33/24 deg is pretty warm, so there’s some things to consider :
I’ll start this ramble by suggesting that although a wetsuit may save you a couple of minutes in the Swim, getting too hot can completely ruin your day as heat exhaustion takes some time to get past, if you can get past it at all during the race, and is not a great thing to start with when you’re in for a long day anyway
I’d also point out that the first aid station on the bike is at about 10 miles, so half hour for the faster guys, and maybe an hour for the slower end, so please ensure you have enough water bottles on your bike to drink as soon as you’re out of the water and on the bike.
I’d seriously recommend that those of you that can. have a good long think about whether you really need a wetsuit or not on the day, and whether swimming without a wetsuit is a better idea than swimming with. You’re adults and know you own swimming better than we do, so the choice is yours.
If you are going to wear a wetsuit, please consider ensuring you get regular cool water into your suit to maintain a decent core temp. My favourite method of this was to pull open the front of the neck line when swimming to get a good dose of cold down my chest.
There’s also a couple of spots on the swim course that 99.9% of people can stand up in, and you’re more than welcome to do so just to get a breather and to get yourself ready to carry on.
If you’re unsure of what you can and can’t wear, please have a read through section 4 of the following BTF rules
https://www.britishtriathlon.org/britain/documents/events/competition-rules/british-triathlon-competition-rules-june-2025.pdf
This is maybe unnecessary scaremongering, as I’m sure it’ll be a perfect swim temp on race day, but I wanted to arm you all with the right information to start with and let you all make the best decisions for yourself.
I will, of course, keep everyone posted on the Water temp during next week’s emails.
Right, that’s it for me for today. The next you will hear from me will be early next week with a link to my face for radio giving you the pre race video briefing, as well as information on parking on the weekend, links to the live tracker and results and some advice for spectators etc.
I’m away up to not so sunny Scotland early tomorrow until Sunday for mine and Nicci’s youngest son’s bike racing, but I’ll have my laptop and internet at the circuit as well as my mobile, so please just get in touch if you need any help with anything, or advice
Cheers and happy training
