Water temp update :
We’ve been out this morning and measured the water temperature at 3 points around the course
The average water temperature today is 24.4deg
The cut off for wetsuits is 24.6
Today’s measurement represented an increase over the measurement we did at the same time yesterday of 1.1 deg, so with more exceptionally hot weather forecasted for today, we fully expect tomorrow’s reading to be well over 25, and this puts us firmly in the ‘Wetsuit Ban’ range
In terms of rules and regulations of what you can and can’t wear in this situation, you can find the detail at
In summary, when no wetsuits are allowed, you cannot wear buoyancy shorts or use any kind of flotation aiding device, and unless religious reasons prevent this, your swim suit cannot extend beyond your knees or elbows
I’m very aware that this will create a lot of very nervous swimmers
There are options though, and if you see the team in registration this afternoon, they can move any Tri competitors to the Bike/Run category
Equally, if we have competitors that are ok with the Swim, but don’t fancy the run in the mid day heat for tomorrow, we can also move anyone to the Aquabike (swim/bike only) class in registration this afternoon too
I will update these channels again tomorrow am at around 05:30, but please now expect that message to be confirming that tomorrow will be a non wetsuit swim
