The following post race email went out to all competitors tonight
Post race email
Firstly, thank you all for choosing to race with 113 Events, and putting your trust in us for your Middle Distance racing
It’s a tough time out there in the Triathlon industry right now, so we truly appreciate you coming racing with us, and we really hope we met all your expectations today.
We saw some unreal performances out there today at both ends of the field, so well done to everyone that finished in the heat of the day and made it to the finish line.
You’re probably all bored to death of reading my mails by now, so I’ll keep this one pretty brief and let you all get back to your recovery (hopefully Beer and Pizza, like me and the team)
In this email, I’ll cover the following :
How fast you went and how you looked doing it
What’s next in 2025
Left anything at the lake
Please let us know what you thought of the race
How fast you went and how you looked doing it
This is probably the only bit that most of you are interested in, so I’ll get this out there first
The provisional results are available HERE
Photo’s from the race will be available in the next day or so HERE
For those of you that won trophies in our 18-49/50+ categories, or were 1/2/3 Male or Female Aquabike or the fastest Relay time, I have trophies here for you, so if you weren’t one of the ones that collected them today, I’ll get those posted out this week
We don’t do a formal prize giving on the day, and I’ll quickly explain why: We don’t have anywhere away from the finish area that’s suitable for a prize giving. It’s super important to me that people are not still soldiering on out on the run course, and see the prize giving taking place, and made to feel like the race is finished without them. Subsequently, we used to run our prize giving around 15:00, but understandably, a lot of people didn’t stick around for it (especially on a less than sunny day). Hence, we now just post them out after the race, or present them on request on the day – Hope that makes sense.
What’s next in 2025
We’ll review as a team how today went in the next week or so, and in the last bit of this email, I’ll ask you all for some feedback too, so there may be further changes based on that.
But, 2025 is well into the planning stages, and we’ll have a few changes moving forward
The dates are provisionally fixed as June 1st for the Cotswold 113 and July 13th for the Classic
The June 113 is looking increasingly likely that it’ll have a new bike course too, just to try and make the race flow a little better and get onto some of the newer surfaced roads in the area – We’ll still aim to make that one pretty much pancake flat.
The Classic Bike course is likely to remain the same, or certainly quite similar, and we’re confident that the two roads near to the lake will be within their resurfacing window by then too.
We will also look to include a Bike/Run category in both races alongside the Tri and Aquabike to try and accommodate those that don’t like swimming.
We’re conscious that not everyone wants an event shirt too, so we’ll introduce an option to eliminate that, and produce a better quality shirt for those that do.
We are very lucky that our Male/Female gender split is miles more equal than all other Middle or Longer distance races in the UK, and we will take first her steps to try and make the race more appealing for an even greater female audience by introducing changing tents in transition
Also, and as any event organiser will tell you, not knowing your competitor numbers until near the race, is one of your worst nightmares as trying to plan an unknown volume of competitors creates all sorts of financial nightmares on many of the longer lead time items. In order to try and get people to sign up earlier, we’ll have a few ways of doing it :
1) We’ll have an early bird cheap rate of entry when it first opens, an earlish bird reduced rate of entry for a few months thereafter, and we’ll not fix it to full price until closer to the event, in the hope that we an start to get people to commit to racing earlier in the calendar, but will of course, retain our no quibble free deferrals or swaps between categories right up to closer to race day.
2) We’ll keep the 33/33/33% 6 month payment plan, as that was super popular this year, and accounted for around 60% of our entries
3) Discounted Club and Group entries were very popular this year too, and that’s something we’ll certainly be keeping for next year. I will email the co-ordinating people from this races club/group entries in the next few days for feedback on how that worked, but thank you to all of those that came along today through that system.
We’ll aim to have both dates locked in with the various stakeholders within a couple of weeks, and will get entries open later this month.
Left anything at the lake, or want to swap shirt sizes etc
Myself, Dave a few others will be down at the lake tomorrow getting cracking through the final clear up and all the counting, checking and getting stuff ready for Winter Storage etc.
We have a fair amount of lost property that was handed in, and we also have the event shirts and some medals down there leftover, so if you fancy popping along to grab an extra medal, swap shirts, we’ll be there tomorrow, and would love to say hi – I actually get quite a peaceful day, as Dave will have lost his voice 🙂
If you’re not staying in the area, and get home and realise you’re missing something, drop me back an email with a google images pic of what you’ve lost, and I’ll see if it’s yet been handed in, or if not, I’ll take a note of it incase it turns up, and get it out in the post to you.
Please let us know what you thought of the race
We’ve run versions of the two Middle Distance races down there 27 times now since 2011, and the formula in many areas works well. However, I’m very aware that you guys see the race from a totally different perspective from myself and the team, and what you all want as competitors is fluid, and changes year on year.
Subsequently, I’d love to hear what you all thought of the race today and all the pre race stuff in the lead up to the weekend, and what worked well, and what you think we can do better moving forwards.
It’s super important to me and the team to get feedback, as we tweak and adjust the race every year in a variety of different ways, but we can only do so by hearing from you all about how your experience with 113 has been.
As any of you that know me will fully understand, I am very passionate about every single detail of the race, to the point where the team, although sharing very similar principles as myself, do sometimes get annoyed with my appetite for detail. We, as a team, try and see as much of the race as we can on the day, but you all who line up on the start line with us, see bits and experience things in the race, that no matter how hard we try, we just don’t have exposure to.
Racing is such a personal experience, and one that contains many emotions and logic based impressions, and I’d love to hear from everyone on what they enjoyed, and what they didn’t please.
Competitor experience is our number 1 priority and something that we truly hope has come across in every bit of this weekend, and all the communication in advance of the race
If you don’t fancy writing out an email, please feel free to ring me any time, or the Kettle is always on at mine and Nicci’s if you’re passing through the area
Right, that really is it from me for today.
I’ll email everyone when next year’s races are fixed
Thank you so much for choosing 113 Events to race with this summer, and we really hope to see all of you back on our start lines next year
For those of you that still have races planned this year, I wish you a constant tailwind and hope you have a great remainder of the 2024 Season
See you all soon
Cheers
