Hey All, I hope everyone’s feeling nice and ready for racing this weekend ?
If you’re anything like me, you’ll have become obsessed with checking weather forecasts for tomorrow over the last few days
Typically, I look at about 4 different forecasts, and just go with the most optimistic one
However, they all seem to agree that the forecast for tomorrow, although dry and reasonably warm, is looking pretty breezy
Now you’re all adults, so I’m not going to start telling you that certain kit can’t be used, but please can I ask that if you’re one of the athletes that has the luxury of choice of various wheel types and depths, that you please use your head when making a decision as to whether you use a disc wheel or not tomorrow, or if you are a much lighter athlete and have deep rims, please can you have a good think as to whether a normal road rim would be a better choice given the conditions .
Our bike course is pretty well shaded from the wind in places, but also pretty open in others, and being a rural countryside route, it means there’s gaps in hedges that the wind can come through and catch you by surprise.
The other thing worth considering is that although we’ll go around early tomorrow am and sweep up any crap that might have blown into the road, lots of wind will continue to bring bits of bushes etc onto the road surface, so the chances of getting a puncture are increased
With that in mind, please can you all ensure you have a tube with you, and the ability to change it should you need
We have 4 moto Support riders and our bike team on the course, and they can help you if you get really stuck, but if there’s lots of punctures and lots of recoveries, they may well take some time to get to you
The rules say that you’re not allowed to take outside assistance from anyone on the course to help fix your bikes, but we’ll turn a blind eye to that if anyone needs that help tomorrow, and someone is on hand to give you some assistance
It’s not a hurricane, and there’s no weather warnings being issued, but a 15-18mph steady wind from the South West with some stronger gusts up into the 30’s are being forecasted
On the positive, you\re going to get a mega tailwind in some sections 🙂
